On October 8th we hosted DesignMeets… Financial Services — our 21st event in just 5 years.

dm-history-datavis-01With 6 incredible speakers talking about advancements in the financial services and #fintech space, it’s amazing to think that only “31% of Canadians use mobile banking to manage their day-to-day transactions” (Canadian Bankers Association).

DM-FinancialServices-infographic-02Design has infiltrated the industry, but why is there such a big gap in the quality of the experience? Here are some of Pivot’s opinions, or probes shall we say, on the topic…

  • Technology adoption is forcing business to think about design
  • Design Thinking, User Experience, and Service Design are being talked about, but are financial institutions ready to take action on real, human-centered, innovative change?
  • Can accelerators truly exist in the legacy or institution space? How do we leap beyond the risk averse mindset?
  • Customer insight is invaluable, but it’s a challenge to manage and find balance between giving advice and offering choice.
  • Fintech, like mHealth or any other industry, is not immune to disruption from the “outside-in”

“To clarify, add detail. Imagine that, to clarify, add detail. Clutter and overload are not attributes of information, they are failures of design. If the information is in chaos, don’t start throwing out information, instead fix the design.”
